Soil Seal Concentrate |
Product Information : What Is Soil Seal? Soil Seal is a soil stabilizer, a means by which the surface of the soil can be stabilized in place against the ravages of wind and water. It is a patented formulation composed primarily of high grade latex acrylic - balanced co-polymers prepared in emulsion form - which is typically reduced with water to be applied by spray to various types of soils. Soil Seal penetrates the soil surface and forms an excellent cohesive bond between the soil particles. It can be used as a sole treatment in combating soil erosion, or as a tackifier in hydroseeding and mulching applications. It is a non-toxic, non-corrosive, non-flammable auxiliary soil chemical formulated to provide safe and economical surface soil stabilization. Applications:
Methods of Application: Soil Seal lends itself to nearly all types of equipment designed to apply liquids. The equipment may vary in size from a common garden insecticide sprayer to equipment as large as a water truck, hydroseeder, or hydromulcher. In all cases, the equipment should be capable of distributing the material in a uniform pattern, applying the solution in large droplets and avoiding fine mists. As required by good maintenance practices, all tools should be flushed clean with water following the Soil Seal is sold as a concentrate which is mixed with water to a predetermined solution. This mixture is then applied at a specific rate, typically described as gallons per acre of concentrate. The standard ratio of water to concentrate is typically 30:1 although, the application rate will vary depending on the soil characteristics; surface contour, severity and frequency of wind and rainfall, and whether Soil Seal is used as a sole treatment or in conjunction with hydroseeding or mulching. The Soil Seal solution will penetrate the soil surface to form a crust, the depth of which will vary from 1/8 inch to about 3/4 inch depending on soil characteristics, dilution percentage, and application rate. As an example, course materials containing little or no fine soil will be penetrated to a greater degree. Suggested Application Rates: Click here for a printable pdf copy of this graph. Soil Seal Concentrate prevents erosion by creating a large mass of stabilized soil which is not easily disturbed by wind and water. Soil Seal Concentrate is:
Useful Information:
Soil Stabilization Specifications: Purpose: It is the purpose of the soil stabilization specification to minimize the effects of wind and water upon the cut and fill slopes and other exposed surfaces in and around the project, preventing pollution of adjacent properties, and the costly regrading and revegetation caused by the unwanted movement of soil and water. Method: The contractor shall provide a method of soil stabilization wherein the natural appearance and beauty of the site shall not be affected by the applications of such stabilizing agents. Further, the medium used shall not measurably change the physical or chemical makeup of the soils encountered. The product shall be capable of being applied by readily available and commonly Product: The soil stabilizing vehicle shall be a co-polymer emulsion consisting of at least ninety percent acrylic. The acrylic emulsion shall be disbursed in water. The soil stabilizing compound shall include the constituent sodium silicate which facilitates the penetration of the compound into the earth, and which assists in creating a crust through the cohesive bonding of the surface soil particles to a depth sufficient to stabilize the soil surface. Further, the compound shall contain an antifoaming agent, allowing said compound to be mixed within a hydraulic applicating device without prohibitive foaming. When the compound is mixed with water and applied to the soil, it shall not change the pH factor of the soil more than (1) pH unit. The compound shall contain a color additive which will assist the applicator in the uniform application of the product after mixing with water, and which will disappear from the soil surface within thirty-six hours of application. The stabilizing co-polymer shall contain an additive which will aid in curing the product in cold weather. Application: The soil stabilizing solution shall be applied in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The soil stabilizing compound will be poured into a container with preferably no more than fifty percent of the water required for its proper mixture already therein. The remainder of the water is then to be added, and the total mixture agitated to insure a completely homogenous final solution. The soil stabilizing solution shall be applied in an even spray, the droplets of which should be no smaller than those encountered in a moderate rainstorm. All materials shall be delivered to the site in unopened containers and all containers should remain tightly closed until used.
Performance: The soil stabilizing compound shall be readily miscible in water, non-injurious to seed or animal life, non-offensive in odor or handling by humans, bio-degradable, non-flammable, and capable of providing surface soil stabilization in various soil classifications without totally inhibiting water infiltration. The soil stabilizing solution shall air cure in forty-eight hours under normal conditions and have a characteristic of being transparent after drying.
